King Country Chronicle Thursday, April 9, 1925. THE EXPRESS TRAIN SERVICE.

It would appear that finality in regard to the Main Trunk express service hsa not yet been reached. It was announced that the "limited" was to be cut out, but according to a statement by the Minister of Railways there is no such intention, and Te Kuiti and district are still in the dark as to what service is to be provided. Representation has been made to Mr Coates on this matter and the wants of the district are well known to him and his Department, but it yet remains to be seen whether he has been duly impressed with the importance of Te Kuiti as a centre. While it is desirable from the point of view of the people of this district that both the trains should stop here, it does not' seem probable that such will be the case, but if one has to be chosen it is to be hoped that it will be the "limited," for it seems most likely that the trains arriving from the north at midnight and the south at 2 a.m. will be cut out. This is the service that is most suitable for the district, but with the "limited" at the disposal of the people of this district, the service will be everything that could be desired, and give passengers bound both north and south a service with better facilities in every way. Considering that the Tourist I Department is spending something like £20,000 on the Waitomo Caves and Hostel, it is a matter of wonder why both the trains do not stop at Te Kuiti, for it is well known that overseas tourists have expressed very adverse opinions on the accommodation on the mixed trains, on which many have to travel when going to the Caves.
