It is worthy of note that Chang-Tso-Lin himself returned to Mukden this week from Tientsin. (News was received on Tuesday that hostilities had again broken out in China. General Sun Chuan-fang was advancing on Shanghai apparently with the object of driving out General Chung-yuan-Ming, who had been appointed' Governor by the reconstructed Pekin Government, llti will be remembered that the recently concluded war came to an end through Marshal Cliaiig-tso-lin, Governor of Manchuria, withdrawing from his attack on Pekin. The rival leaders then compounded their differences, ('hang declaring that he wanted <r<o sec peace and order restored. He thereupon withdrew to his northern principality and it appeared that peace had come. On Wednesday it was cabled that Sun Oman Fang had captured the Shanghai arsenal, and Chang-fnan-ming had taken refuge in ".jhe European settlement. It was declared that the object of Sun and bis ally Chi Hsioh-Yuan was to hold, the provinces of Kiang-su, Anhui, Chikiang and Fukien, and to throw off the control of Pekin.)
