OPARURE PICNIC.

Tho second annual Oparure Farmers’ Picnic was very successfully held at Oparure on Thursday. There was a good attendance which was augmented by two bus loads of people from To Kuit. The ground chosen was a willowfringed paddock on the property of Mr G. Smart-, which made an idem', picnic site. Ample provision had been made far the appetites of hungry picnickers, this side of the arrangements being in charge of Mesdames Smart and Idling. An amusing programme of sports was run off and liberal prizes distributed, it being the object of the committee, Messrs Smart, Turner and Luxmore,. to make a gift to every child on the ground. The committee felt very grateful to the Te Kuiti retailers who contributed so generously to the prize list. The sports resulted as follows: Single Men’s Race: WitTison 1, Barlow 2. Boys, 14 to 16 (0. Boles’ prize): Finlay 1. Girls, 14 to 16 (Evans’ prize) : Miss J. Smith 1, Miss Petto 2. Single Ladies’ Race: Miss Petto 1, Mass H. Do-wio 2. Junior Married Men’s Race (Ceilings’ prize) : Haines 1, (Stabbings’ prize) Haines 2. Senior Married Men’s Race: Luxmore 1, Larsen 2. Young Married Ladies (McLeunan’s prize) : Mrs Nicholls 1, Mrs M arion 2. Senior Married Ladies (McCorkiudale’s prize) : Mrs Feran 1, Mrs Connell 2. Nail-driving Competition (Nicholls’ prize) : Don 1, Dowie 2.
