A SWISS VENDETTA.
OF 238 YEARS' STANDING. (Press Association.) London, December 28. The Geneva correspondent of the Daily Express describes an amazing vendetta which was begun 238 years ago between the families of Aschwanden and Jauch in the Alpine village of Burgeden. On Christmas Day Jauch shot Aschwanden in a forest and then gave himself up to the police. He declared he had shot his enemy in order to protect his own life.
Aschwanden's 16-year-old son swore an oath to avenge his father. There is already a long list of deaths due to the feud. The male children of both families have been taught from infancy to shoot straight, and are never allowed to leave the village unarmed.
