EXCURSION TRAINS.
SUGGESTION FROM DEPARTMENT CITIZENS ASKED TO CO-OPERATE The following letter has been received by the stationmaster, Mi Pavitt, from the District Traffic Manager at Ohakune:— “It is desired that every encleavoui be made to promote tourist traffic and popular excursions, and with this end in view please arrange to interview the Mayor, or representative citizens in your locality, and let me have their views on the matter together with your report early. “The chairmen of the various School Committees should also be interviewed regarding the prospects of arranging combined school and public excursions to larger towns or popular resorts. For instance, it might be possible for the schools from Taihape to Hunterville inclusive to arrange for an excursion to Wanganui, or for the schools from Te Kuiti to Ohaupo inclusive and surrounding districts, to Hamilton. These examples are merely given to show what.is intended. “It should be ascertained whether, in the event of such excursions being arranged, the Mayor or leading citizens would declare a public holiday in order that the townspeople generally could avail themselves of such an excursion.
“It might be possible also to arrange excursions from the country districts to the larger towns with this district, and in the event of this being done it is desired to be known whether the Mayor and representative citizens would arrange local attractions and concessions for the visitors.”
