HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.
PETITION FORWARDED. The petition praying for the creation of a power board district, to include Te Kuiti, Otorohanga, and a portion of the Waitomo County, has been duly forwarded to Wellington for presentation to the GovernorGeneral. In a covering letter the town clerk (Mr J. Kiernan), who is acting as secretary to the provisional board, points out that the petition has been signed by well over the required number of ratepayers (25 per cent) in the constituent areas.
It had been suggested that at least 50 per cent of ratepayers in the Otorohanga area comprised in the Te Awamutu Power Board’s outer area, should attach their signatures to the petition. No less than 52 per cent of the Otorohanga ratepayers who were affected had signed the petition. The petition circulated in the Otorohanga town district bore the signatures of 50 per cent of the ratepayers, and more than 70 per cent of the resident ratepayers. The letter urges the early gazetting of the area as a power district, as it was hoped to elect the new board early in January.
