OTOROHANGA NEWS.

(Our Special Correspondent.) MENACE TO EXPRESS TRAINS. What might have resulted in a very serious accident to the express early on Monday morning was promptly averted by the driver bringing the train to a sudden standstill opposite the Otorohanga stock trucking yards, where a number of cattle had escaped and were wandering on the line. THE DOGS OF OTOROHANGA.

Our local canine friends are having another bad "spin" at the hands of some, as yet, obscure poisoner, who is quite evidently intent upon cleaning up the last of the dogs of Otorohanga. As upon a previous occasion, some valuable animals "went west," and the matter has been placed in the hands of the local police for further investigation. It is understood that they have a clue, and sensational developments are expected. CHURCH MATTERS. The adherents of the Anglican Church here have secured for their popular pastor, the Rev. MaePheraon, a first-class turnout, in the shape of a horse and gig, in order that he may be enabled to get around his large circuit more expeditiously than formerly. Not to be outdone in catering for the needs of their clergyman, the members of the Presbyterian hurch have provided the Rev. McFarlane with a handsome new motor car, with which to get round his large flock. OTOROHANGA OPERATIC SOCIETY At a meeting of the above Society on Tuesday night, a letter was read from the secretary of the Taumarunui Racing Club, asking the opera company to stage H.M.S. Pinafore at Taumarunui on race night, 12th December, and guaranteeing the Society a £IOO house. It was decided to accept the offer, subject to satisfactory train arrangements beinb made with the traffic mnaager, N.Z.R. PERSONAL.

Mrs Barker, of Mount Albert, who has been visiting her daughters (of the local school teaching staff) returned home on Tuesday morning. Miss Phyllis Atkinson is on a few days' holiday, which she is spending with friends at Cambridge. Mr Wm. T. Scott, of Rangiatea, has left for Palmerston North, to be present at his only daughter's wedding.
