DAIRYING INDUSTRY.
NEW SEASON’S PROSPECTS. RECORD OUTPUT PREDICTED. The new dairying season is still highly favourable for production, and the early predictions of experts in the industry that a record output for the district would be made this season bids fair to be realised (says the New Zealand Herald). During August, the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company had produced over 1000 tons of butter, an increase of 46 per cent over the production recorded during August, 1921. These are striking figures, but they are no more remarkable than those showing the butter production of the whole province. From Jury 1 to September 16 the quantity of butter received at the Farmers’ Freezing Company’s grading stores amounteci to no less than 111,874 boxes, compared with 45,992 during the corresponding period of 1921, an increase of 65,882 boxes over a period of only 2 y 2 months. These figures are sufficiently striking to carry conviction that a great record in butter production should be established during the season, provided no extraordinary dislocation occurs in the industry. The fact that the proportion of increase is mounting as the season advances, is a further strong indication that a phenomenally productive season will be experienced. During the two weeks ended September 16, 53,150 boxes were received at the grading stores, compared with 16.492 for the similar period last year, an increase of 36,658 boxes. The rapid nature of the increase as the season advances is indicated by the fact that the receipts for the six days ended September 16 were about 1500 boxes in excess of the quantity received during the previous week. With such a great increase in butter it is only natural that the cheese production should show a decrease. The quantity of cheese received at the grading stores to September 16 was 855 crates, compared with 1683 during the corresponding period of last season, a decrease of 828. For the two weeks ended ' September 16, 219 crates were received, compared with 1140 for the corresponding period of September, 1921.
