MOKAUITI NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.)

A native football team from Aria paid us a visit on Saturday last to try conclusions with a local team. The game was played on Mr J. •McGregor's property, and was full of incident. The n final score, 28 to 4in favour of Moßauiti, was no indication of the play, for although the Maoris were beaten their tackling was superior to that of the local team, and they deserved a little more success, though the better team won. The local team was as follows: Full-back, K. Orr; three-quarters C. Johns. J. Rea; five-eighths, P. Anderson, W. Guildford; half, \V. Hose; forwards, IS- McGregor (rover), F. lowering, J. Moore, L. Aldridge. F. Hose, F. Tapp, R. Shaw, P. Goulding, and lan McGregor. A few comments on our local team will not be out of place. Of the backs C Johns stood well out • n his own. " He has a nice turn of speed and knows how to use it Of the forwards L. Aldridge and Inn McGregor were the pick. 'lke latier was always on the ball and never seemed to tire. His tackling of Sunny Tohengaroa at one neriod of the game was most spectacular W. Hose at half marred what would have been otherwise a good diswav by the fatal mistake of hanging on to the ball, and lost at least two tries through tlm error. He was nippy enough behind the scrum, but once he got the ball he simply would not let go until he was smothered, it r is hoped to get a good team together 11 next season, and with practice there ought to be a good combination nt to meet all comers. I found it imposible to get the names of the Maori team, but Sunny Tohengaroa, Maunga Maata, Kitowaaka, Willie Ormsby.. and C. Hose played very well. Maunga Maata a potted goal from the field was a gem. OFar the winners the following scored tries; Johns (3), Aldridge (2), Moore m, Goulding (1), Anderson concerted one and Orr converted one and kicked a goal from a free kick. After the match the ladies entertained everybody to afternoon tea, and in the evening the visitors were the guests of the local football team at a dance held in the school.
