FREIGHTS ON PRODUCE.

REQUEST FOR REDUCTION. CONFERENCE AT DANNEVIRKE. All the dairy factories in Southern Hawke's Bay were represented at a conference with Messrs Mason and Grant, the business representatives of the Railway Department for the North and South Islands. A request was made for an immediate reduction in freights on dairy produce, which were considered abnormally high in comparison with what was being obtained for butterfat; they were also too heavy in comparison with charges on other commodities.

The question was exhaustively discussed, the position of the Department being lucidly explained, and the railway representatives promised to make a sympathetic report to the General Manager of Railways.
