SCHOOL BASKET AND FOOTBALL.
MATCHES AT TE AWAMUTU. On Saturday football and basketball teams from the local school paid a return visit to Te Awamutu to try conclusions with the school teams there. The visitors were most hospitably entertained, and a thoroughly enjoyable day was spent. In the games Te Kuiti annexed the honours in both football matches— Senior. 17 to nil; Junior 5 to 3; and in the secondary basket-ball game (27 to 13), but lost the primary basketball match (10 to 18). The senior football match involved the Teddy Shield, and Te Kuiti, as a result of their win, retain the shield, which they won last year. The game was very fast and of a good standard, with the Te Kuiti boys showing superiority in attack. Backs and forwards threw the ball about in fine style and, strangely enough, all the five tries were secured by forwards—Lee, Wilson, Blow, Mullins and G. Jacob. The backs all played well, particularly the Darrow brothers, Ngahuia and Hankers, while Jacob, Lee, Mullins, Wilson and Smith were the best of a good pack.
