DEFAULTING RATEPAYERS.

DISCUSSED BY COUNCIL. At Monday evening's meeting of the Waitomo County Council the cleric drew attention to the fact that a loss of about £4OO in Government subsidy had been made last year in consequence of the large number of ratepayers who" failed to pay their rates in the limit of time set by the Government for contributing the jsubsidy on rates collected. A number of ratepayers were now forwarding their rates less the 10 per cent. Which had been added and claiming to be placed on the roll. This was in view of the coming election, and he wished the Council to understand the position. The County solicitor had advised tbat the 10 per cent, should be paid before the ratepayers were entitled to be removed from She defaulters' list.
