WAITANGURU.

Own Correspondent. The weather experienced in this part of late has been very mild. Thoße whose labours necessitate working in the open, doubtless have welcomed the latter days, and wish to see a prolonged repetition of them. Signs of progress are being displayed in this district in many ways. The settlers are energetically awaking to a sense of their responsibiilty and are utilising their best efforts in their district's concern. lhe Progressive Association, which meets monthly, centres its interest in establishing progressive ideas, which, when put into practical form, will achieve beneficial results. From this body has been elected three other important bodies, namely the executive whoße business it is to take into custody and utilise to their best ability the measures adopted by the association; the hall committee, who shall deal with all matters in connection with the welfare of the hall; and the Domain Board, who assume control of everything in conjunction with the domain. The executive met on January 24th, and expended lengthy deliberation on the many important subjects under discussion. Though this district is only in its infancy so to speak.it says volumes for its future welfare and advancement, when the settlers so early are taking such a lively interest. Two large waggon loads of timber have come in during the past few days for two of our local settlers. This surely is a progressive sign, and as both these settlers are bachelors, we are somewhat curious to know what the timber is to be utilised for. We wonder whether they intend to demolish their "room for one" habitations, and erect residences in which they may be able to engage life partners; in short, we wonder whether they intend to join the ranks of the benedicts. The date of the Comedy Company's social and dance, which waß previously advertised to take place on February 10th, has been altered to February 6th, owing to unforseeri circumstances. We hope, however, that the change of dateß will not affect the attendance.
