SPORTING.

Quite a number of local horses are being worked at present with a view to approaching fixtures. Mr Lusk's pair, Salvia and Maid of Orleans, are engaged at the Takapuna meeting at the end of this month, from which they will be back in time to take part in the Te Kuiti meeting. It was intended to have given the latter a start in the last race at Auckland, but a suitable light-weight rider could not be obtained, and the filly has yet to face the barrier in a race. There will probably be a lot of vsiting horses on the local coune a week or so before the races, and efforts are being made to get the track into good order. At present it is Bomewhat rough in places, but a great deal of improvement can be effected in the next week or two. Waikato will be well represented at the Te Kuiti meeting. R. Hannon haß a team of five entered in the various events, and W. Ring will be represented in the Cup by Monocle, and in the minor races by Hinerewa.
