DANGEROUS LEVEL CROSSINGS.
BOROUGH COUNCIL ACTION. The matter of leaking some attempt to minimise the danger at ths railway crossings at Te Kuiti was referred to at Monday evening's meeting of te Borouhg Council. Cr Howarth said the Minister of Railways had stated a report was being prepared by the Department with respect tu the dangerous railway crossings throughout ths Dominion, and automatic bells would be installed in those which we.ro considered dangerous. He thought the Council should take steps to see that the crossings on the Awakino road and King street were included among those considered most dangerous, and in any case an effort should be made to have the iron fence at the Maori house removed. This would be a little improvement, and might be the means of averting a fatal accident. He felt strongly on the subject, and considered no effort nhoulid be spared to effect an improve- I ment.
Other conciliors spoke in support of the suggestion, and it was resolved that the town clerk be instructed to write to the Railway Department drawing attention to the dangerous nature of the crossings at Te Kuiti.
