An unsuccsesfu! attempt was made to rob the safe of the Newmarket branch of the Bank of New Zealand last nitiht. A clerk returned to work, at 7 o'clock. 3nd while standing out side heard a loud explosion. Accompanied by a passerby he entered found the place full of smoke. An attempt had been mads to blow open the door of the safe, but it was unsuccessful.'' The police found nothing to indicate how an entrance had been effected.
