Walter Merrifield has been committed for trial at Newcastle ort a charge oi murdering his partner, Clarence Kefford, who was killed through an explosion of gelignite in the room where he was sleeping. Merrifield told the police he caused the explosion with the object of frightening Kefford, believing he was absent from the room.
