King Country Chronicle Wednesday, May 28th, 1913. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Those who are interested in the formation of the retailers' branch of the Chamber of Commerce should not fail to attend the meeting which is called for to-night at tho Municipal Chambers. As was pointed out at the meeting on Friday evening last there is pressing need fo; the establishing of a committee for the purpose of attending to the many details and interests which are the primary concern of the retailers of the town, and by cementing those interests and arriving at a general understanding for their mutual benefit the business people will be adopting a highly sensible course. A well recognised body such as a Chamber of Commerce can exercise a far reaching influence, no! only in respect to the immediate interests of those associated with it. but in promoting the welfare of the district generally. In new and growing centres it is of the utmost importance that harmony should be established among those to whom the progress of the town should be the chief concern. As an agent towards the establishment of unanimity in aim and action in public matters with which are associated the commercial interests of the community, and as a recognised channel for advocating those interests the Chamber of Commerce stands alone. Such an institution is worthy of the support of every business man in the district, and it rests entirely with the people themselves to make the institution of the utmost benefit to all concerned
