THREATENED WATER FAMINE.

SERIOUS POSITION AT WAIHI. [UY TELEGRAPH.—I'MSS ASSOCIATION.] Waihi, Friday. Owing to continued dry weather the position in regard to the water supply of the town has become very serious, and a water famine is threatened, creeks leading into the reservoir having almost dried up. .Yesterday the water in the reservoirs diminished over a foot, and since then a similar drop has taken place, leaving only six inches of water above the outlet pipe which supplies the town. This sudden drop has come as a great shock, and the Borough Council, with a view to averting an immediate famine, has notified that the supply will be cut off except during the hourß 6 and 7 in the morning, and 5 to 6 in the evening, "ommencing to-morrow morning. It is doubtful, however, whether this will successfully cope with the position.
