THE SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.
FARMERS' UNION RESOLUTIONS WLLING TO MAN THE BOARDS. At a meeting of the North Canterbury Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union on Wednesday afternoon, the following resolutions were adopted:— 1. That we, the North Canterbury Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, recommend that at the freezing companies try to settle the disppute with the Slaughtermen's Union by means of mutually appointed arbitrators." 2. That if the above course fails, the freezing companies should try to settle the matter with those members of the Slaughtermen's Union who uphold the principle of arbitration. 3. That if the whole body of the Slaughtermen's Union refuses to arbitrate, then we, as a Farmers' Union, for the protection of our own occupation, ask the freezing companies to allow us to man the boards with free labour.
