ASSISTING THE HOSPITAL.

MRS GRAHAM'S CHRISTMAS POND. This fund has again met with the approval that it certainly deserves, as evinced by the large amount contributed. Many years ago it was started by Mrs Graham asking a few friends to cdntribute a shilling each to purchase gifts for the hospital inmates at Christmas time, and each succeeding year it has increased and has now grown to such an extent that there is always a substantial sum left over after' every patient at the hospital has been provided for. This year there were 104 patients at the hospital, and on Christmas morning every one of them was given a suitable present, and all those who were allowed also had the luxury of partaking uf the cakes, strawberries, etc., that had been provided from this fund. It is intended to purchase out of the balance in hand '(£ sB 10s 6d) a gramaphone and set of records for the consumptive annexe, and alio some more records for the gramaphone now in use at the general hos pital, also a dozen easy chairs and other articles for making the patients acomfortable as possible, and any balance left after these are paid for will be handed to the Hospital Board to be added to the fund for purchasing an X-Ray plant. The amount previously contributed from this fund, and earmarked for this purpose now stands at £ll6 113 lOd, which with the Government subsidy of 24s in the £ should be sufficient to enable the Hospital Board to purchase the required plant Many of the list holders when returning the list with the amounts collected sent letters wishing success to the fund and conveying their good wishes, which Mrs Graham heartily reciprocates, and takes this opportunity of thanking all those who kindly contributed. Drs Douglas assisted the committee in their purchases, and Mr Valder sent out lists to the sawmills, the employees of which responded most liberally. Mr BrookSeld, of the Bank of New Zealand, has very kindly acted as treasurer of the fund:—
