AMUSEMENTS.
EMPRESS PICTURES. The attraction for this evening is a magnificent picture of the Auckland Cup, 1912, and is a complete revelation to picture lovers. Amongst the star films is one entitled "On the Pupil of His Eye." The household of Senator Walker consists of himself, bis ward Mary, and his nephew. John, the servant, loves Lucy, the maid, who will not marry him unless he haß lot of money. Mr Walker draws up his will leaving the bulk of to Mary and his nephew. , John needs more and. murders bis master. A detective is engaged, and a stained handkerchief is found in the servant's room. He suspects the servant and puts an ad. in the paper saying that the dead man's photo will be taken, as it is said ths murderer's face is always imprinted un the pupil of the eye of the murdered one. John terrified, goes to look at the body, but it has been removed and there in its place is a flashlight camera. The nephew who was suspected, iq released on a full confession on the part of John. Several supporting films complete an interesting and attractive programme.
PREMIER PCTURES. The pictures to'be Bhown. to-night at the Rink should prove very attractive and entertaining. The leading dramas, "The Cord of Life*' and "Way of a Man and a Maid" are of intense interest. The comedy "Winnie's Dance" is worth going a long way to see, while the comics are most amusing. Don't miss "Broncho Billy and the Bandits." Those looking for a good night's amusement should not fail to visit the Rink tonight. The complete change of bill and the very fine pictures to be shown to morrow night at the Rink are also of a highly attractive nature. The management having made special arrangements to secure the and best, the most critical should be satisfied. The leading dramas, "Her Gift," "Two Daughters of Eve," and Maid or Man" are of intenseinterest. The comedies, "Her Polished Family" and "Prof. Stout's Honeymoon" will make the most serious laugh, adn the other items on the programme will go to make a very enjoyable evening. Do not miss it.
SUMMER CARNIVAL. At the Public School grounds io morrow afternoon and evening, the Church of England Ladies' Guild will hold their Summer Carnival, at which displays of plain work, fancy work, flowers and sweets, and produce will be exhibited. The arrangements for the sports competition are well advanced and great amusement will be gained from the different competi tions, particularly from the tub race on the river and pillow fighting. The committee ask that tho?e people intending to take part in swimming races and the tub race will appear in neck-to-knee costume. A very pleasant afternoon and evening should be spent.
