BRITAIN'S TARIFF.

WHEAT BOUNTIES ADVOCATED.

Received January 7, 9.30 p.m

By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright London. Tuesday.

The Conservatives, are giving prominence to Sir Joseph Lawrence's idea to grant a bounty of 2s on Colonial and Home grown wheat, the money to be obtained by the taxation of foreign manufactures. Thus both workers and agriculturalist will benefit.

Mr Charles Bathurst, M.P., in supporting the principle, argues that the bounty should be larger in the cas»of Home grown than of Colonial, wheat in fairness to English farmers owing to the farmer's heavy rates and taxes and also for the sake of fiscal orthodoxy.
