Following is the High Commissioner's cable, dated London, August 3]st. quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot: —■
Mutton.—Market firm, with more inquiry for forward delivery. Canterbury 4M light weight, 4Jd heavyweights; North Island 4gd light weight, 4Jd heavy weights ewes 4d. Small business doing, and prices weak in market.
Lamb. —Demand chiefly for medium weights. Canterbury 51d, other than Canterbury 5Jd, River Plate 4Jd. Beef.—Market steady but without animation. Quotations show a weaker tendency on account of plentiful offerings of chilled. New Zealand hinds 3id, fores 3Jd; River Plate chilled hinds 4d, fores 2Jd. Butter. The market is quiet. Prices are slightly weaker, except for best quality, which is Bcarce. Danish 128s, Australian 110s, Siberian 106s.
Cheese.—The market is firm, and the supply of New Zealand is practically exhausted. Average price for the week for the finest New Zealand 675, Canadian 66s to 675. Wool. —The market remains firm.
