On Friday evening last a very successful social was held under the auspiceß of the local football club. A large number attended, and the club's funds will benefit to the extent of about £2. Excellent piano music was rendered by Miss Silva. Musical items that were much appreciated were given by Miss Harrison, Miss Silva, Mr Gallagher and Mr Poland. The annual meeting of the football club will be held on Wednesday, next to read and discuss the balance sheet for the season.

The usual monthly meeting of the School Committee was held in Mr Gray's office on Friday evening. There were present Messrs Worm (chairman) Gray, Barreyatt, Seymour, Rolland and Henderson. The headmaster also attended. A long discussion ensued as to the best manner of laying out the £l7 (receipts and subsidies) accruing from the recent school concert. A comprehensive scheme of draining, ploughing and generally improving the ground was drawn up and adopted. Arrangements were also made for the formation of a school library. The inspector's report was read and was found to be of a very commendatory nature.

The annual general meeting of the Mangapehi, Tennis Club was held on Wednesday, August 21st. Mr W. Buck presided. The balance-sheet showed that total receipts for last season were £l6 10s 6d, the expenditure £l6 19s 4d, leaving a deficit of 8s lOd. It was decided that the subscription remain at 10s for the season. The following officers were elected for the ensuing season: — Patron, Mr J. W. Ellis; president, ! Mr H. Valder; vice - presidents, Messrs A. Worm, J. Gray, G. K. Wilson, A. Butler, H. E. Partridge, J. Wiseman, R. Cotter, F. W. Hunt, J. Rolland, J. Boyd; committee, Messrs B. W. Hayson, D. Seymour, W. Buck, A. Kinnell, A. Goodall, I Mrs Griffin, Mrs Buck, Misses E. McCracken, W. Johnson, Tomlinson; hon. sec, Mr A. E. McCracken; hon. treas., Mr J. Gray; selection committee, Messrs Buck, Hayson and McCracken. The opening day was fixed fo September 28th. It was decided to invite members from other clubs of the K.C.L.T.A. to be present. Practice and- ladder competition matches have alreadv commenced, quite a number of players being on the court on Saturday last.
