THE EGMONT SEAT.

CHOICE OF LIBERAL CANDIDATE. [llV -TKLKUHAriI. —I'RKSS ASSOCIATION.] Eltham, Tuesday, At a well-attended meeting of Liberals, held last night, the selection of a Liberal candidate for the Egmont seat was taken into consideration, and Mr D. L. A. Astbury, a well-known farmer, residing at Mangatoki, was unanimously elected. Messrs Parrott and Hughes, two other possible candidates, declared that they would heartily support Mr Astbury. Proceedings were enthusiastic and unanimous. Auckland, Tuesday.

Mr W. T. Jennings, late member for Taumarunui, who has been 011 a visit to Auckland during the last few days, this morning informed a Star representative that he had no intention whatever of contesting the Egmont seat. When his name was mentioned early in the campaign he wrote to his committee at Taumarunui, stating that he had no intention of accepting nomination for Egmont and there was no chance of his altering his mind on the subject.

The new organ at St. Luke's Church which the Rev. E. Chitty is to open on Friday evening is the best make of Karn Canadian two manual organ. The instrument is in a handsome caye of oak, the height being sft 2in, depth 2ft Gin, length sft 3in. The compass of manuals is C. to C. l 61 notes. The organ has been very highly spoken of by organists of great experience. Altogether the instrument is fully up to its reputation, and lovers of organ music will be able to hear it to the best advantage under the able palying of the Rev. E. Cbitty. During the recital the anthem "What are These" will be sung by the choir, also solos by Mrs Rouse and Mr Blackman.
