HONIKIWI.

Own Correspondent,

Matters in this district have been very quiet lately but now that the spring is with us once again farmers must prepare for a busy time. Young lambs can now be heard amongst the flocks, and towards the end of the month they will be quite common once again. The weather during the past week has been very severe, being, in fact, colder than it has been for years. Bushfeliing i 3 proceeding very rapidly although the areas are smaller this year than has been the . case for"merlg. Altogether some four to five hundred acres will be cut out and in some cases this year will see the end of the bush on some of the sections.

Feed has been plentiful considering the time of the year, and stock is in splendid condition the like of which has not been experienced before. Given fine weather from now on the lamb percentage and the wool clip should te very good. For the first time in the history of the district football has been started. Last Saturday the Honikiwi team played the match against the Maoris, victory resting with . the whites by 11 points to three. Tries were scored for the victors by W. Carter 2, A. Cartel 1, while Potter converted the lest try. For the Maoris Kohi scored. The game throughout was a most exciting one, good play being Bhown in both sides. Honikiwi have the makings of a good team. Carter Bros., East Bros., West and Potter all played good games, and show great promise. Kohi and Friday played well for the Maori. A return match will be played shortly and other matches if they can be arranged. A meeting will be held in the school next Saturday to discuss several matters relating to the welfare of the district. Among other matters the question of a bi-weekly mail will be discussed. Arrangements will also be made for the carrying of the cream to Otorohanga during the coming milking season.
