SIR JOSEPH WARD AT SYDNEY.
THE VANCOUVER SERVICE. RECIPROCITY TREATY NEEDED* By Tclcsruph.—l'ress Association. —Coro'rijrlit Received March 11, 9.15 a.m. Sydney, This Day. Sir Joseph Ward, interviewed, said New Zealand was quite friendly with reference to the matter of the Vancouver mail service, and would gladly work in conjunction with the Commonwealth in order to have a suitable service for both countries. Regarding the prospect of reciprocity between the Commonwealth and New Zealand, Sir Joseph said he wes quite ready to unter into a reciprocal treaty on fair and reasonable lines to both countries. It seemed a pity that two sister countries, growing together, could not arrange a tariff. He added that the trade development oC both would follow. He recognised there was difficulties, and that manufacturing industries could not be interfered with, but there was ample room for practical and effective treaty that would help to cement the ties of kingship. He had not the chance at present of discussing the matter with the Commonwealth Government, but would be glad to do so when the opporturiiy pi\. r ... :>ted itself.
