THE MOVING PEOPLE.

ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES. During the month of February, 905 people arrived in Auckland from ports outside New Zealand, and 1378 left the Dominion by way of Auckland. For February last year, the inward and outward passengers numbered respectively 921 and 903. The apparent large increase of emigrants over immigrants is not an indication to be taken very seriously by itself, referring as it does to but one port; and the figures for the past year show quite remarkable fluctuations. For the 12 months past, the movements of passengers into and out of New Zealand by the Northern gateway are shown in the following figures:— March, inwards 870, outwards 1434 : April, 676 3 —1306; June, 623 —907 ; July, 77S —775; August, 668 —1069; September, 900 873; October 927 —815; November 1274 —699; December 1184 —912; January 1515—1205; February 905 1378; totals, inwards 11,103, outwards 12,832.
