The method of doing business in the Land and Survey Office was the subject of some comment by Mr F. Earl at the Supreme Court, Hamilton, the other morning, in connection with the action McCarthy v. the Waikato A. and P. Association. The evidence showed that a plan made by Messrs Thompson and Farrer was forwarded to the Survey Office, Auckland, dated March 30th, 1909, and was not approved until March oOtb, 1910. "This," said Mr Earl, "is the way we do things in Auckland. Hundreds and hundreds of plans are hung up in the same way. The oilice explained that they are short-handed, and could not get men, but the whole thing is a scandal." 'There are a good many people outside the surveying profession who will heartily endorse these remarks.
