I At Monday night's meeting of the ■ 1 Borough Council the Mayor drew at- ' tention to the fact that under the new i Municipal Act all persons resident for ■ three months within the borough, : whether single or married, house- : holders or boarders, ara entitled to be [ put on the municipal roll and to record ■ their votes at borough elections if over the age of 21. As Te Kuiti Borough Council were quietly discussing water rights on ; Monday night the fire bell suddenly rang out and the Council, with one ; consent, adjourned for the scene of the outbreak. It turned out to be a : store room situated at the south end : of Taupiri street and owned by Mr j Wallace, carrier, containing a quan- | tity of chaff, partly the property of I Messrs Reardon and Sons, of Aria. The brigade turned out smartly with i the engine, and a stream of water i from the river close at hand was : promptly turned on the burning structure. After a few minutes the ; fire was got under control, but not i before the building and its contents i were irremediably damaged. Mrs Stanton has arranged a moonlight concert, to be held to-morrow : (Thursday) night, a>, 8 o'clock, in air] 1 of the St. Luke's enlargement fund. ! i Questioned as to his attitude toj wards contesting a divided King ■ Country seat at the next general election. the Hon. Thos. Mackenize said yesterday that he had to learn two things: First, that Taieri was to become extinct; second, that a new electorate was to be created in the King Country. In the event of Taieri becoming extinct he wouid have no objection to contesting a North island seat. Asked yesterday as to the possibility of the Government arranging for limestone to be burnt in various country districts in the King Country, to enable settlers to get lime for : agricultural purposes at low rates, the Hon. Thos. Mackenzie replied that State enterprise did not receive the same encouragement in the North Island as it did in the South Island. He held cut no hopes at present of such a new departure being undertaken. Messrs Young and Co. report the sales of Brown's boardinghouse at Ana to Mr T. O'Suliivan; a dairy farm to Mrs Strahan, A.
