FARMERS' UNION.
OTOROHANGA BRANCH. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Farmers' Union was held on the 9th inst. Present —Messrs R. G. Matthews (chairman), Jno. Willis, W. Vicary, C. Cater, Jno. Ormsby, A. S. Board. C. J. Johnson, N. Prim, J. G. Ranby, H. Matthews, and H. W. Quin (secretary and treasurer). Correspondence was read and dealt with from Messrs McLean and W. L. Cato, re transfers to Honikiwi branch, —Left in the hands of the secretary. Mr Ormsby, enclosing communication re telephone matters from Mr Hargreaves. —Resolved on the motion of the secretary and Mr Johnson, that this meeting request the Minister in charge of Post and Telegraphs to connect the railway station at Otorohanga with the local telephone bureau in order to enable the settlers and others in the back country to obtain direct communication with the railway. Resolved on the motion of Messrs Vicary and Matthews that the secretary be instructed to write to the chief postmaster, Auckland, asking that a postal note isr,ue and money order office be opened at Waitomo. Mr Ranby proposed and Mr Ormsby seconded pro forma that the secretary and chairman ascertain and report to the next rneetnig as to whether the present railway gates are to be permanently closed or otherwise, and as to whether the trucking yards are to be now enlarged sufficiently to meet the requirements of those trucking stock. The following new members were elected:—Messrs Frank White, of Otorohanga, and Joseph Leatham, of Mungaronga.
