CANADIAN MAIL SERVICE.
AUCKLAND AS PORT OF CALL. AUSTRALIA WON'T AGREE. By Telegraph.-—Press Association.— Copyright. Received November .!(>', 12.55 a.m. Melbourne, Last Night. The Federal Cabinet has lengthily considered the Canadian PostmasterGeneral's request for its concurrence with the Union Company tender lor the Vancouver mail service. From the first of August next the route, provides for the omission of Brisbane, and the inclusion of Auckland as a port of call, with Sydney as the terminal port. Cabinet has decided not to agree to this route and a cable to that effect was sent, to the Canadian Government. Furlher negotiations may follow, as Ihe lender provided for an alternative route, but the Commonwealth Covermncnl is not prepared to substitute Auckland for Brisbane.
The Canadian Coxeminent may possibly accept the tender without the Commonwealth s concurrence, though this is net. eon.-idcml likely. It is understood the New Zealand Government is pjepared to contribute £25,000 towards the cost, if Canada should join with New Zealand in arranging a new service. The Federal Government have still to determine whether it will subsidise the new sLeamship company to provide a direct service between Auckland and Canada,
