THE GREATEST LIGHT ON EARTH.
An exhibition of the greatest interest to Te Kuiti residents was given on Saturday night last (at the corner of Rora and Sheridan streets) of the Lux incandescent kerosene gas lamp. The Lux Light Company, of Auckland, with the kind permission of Mr O'Regan, installed one of their 1000 candle-power "Auto-Lux" lamps. This lamp is the very latest production of the Lux company, of Sweden, and was specially designed for street lighting. The light is of great power and brilliancy, withal soft and penetrating. It also has the great advantage of showing shades and colours as distinctly as in daylight. The lamp is very ornamental and elegant in design, and is made of the very best material, being white metal, aluminium and gunmetal throughout. It is extremely economimcal to run, the cost of consumption being about three-farthings an hour, while the manipulation is very, simple, as was shbwn in the demonstration of lighting by the compare's representative. The Lux Company claim that the Lux light is the only'Uight that has replaced gas and electr\ light in- large cities, a glance at fbeir circular showing the numerous business, places in Auckland, Wellington and southern cities which have disckided gas and electric proves this.\Among the Auckland users of LuxlLare Messrs Tonson Garlick and Co., wtHannah and Co., Massey Bros., Seagareßros., and many others, while Messrs Cwrt, of Hamilton., are installing thS|Uamps inside and out their new buirang now in course of ejection. The Lite: Company were the successful contractus for the lighting pf the Waikato and~nd Winter IjSnows, with highly satiil|actory results fo both committees. pany hpve these lamps in a wide fajige of pojver from 90 candle-power (hanging and table lamps for dwelling houses) up to 2000 candle-powder for shop ; lighting, etc. The New Zealand Government have adopted these lamps for lighting their principal workshops, etc.
Another blaze of light along Rora street attracted our attention and stood out above all others with wonderful brilliancy. On enquiring we find that Mr E. J. Thomson has installed a 1000 candle-power Lux lamp in front of his premises, making them as bright as day. We hear that the light showed up with wonderful effect to the residents on Pukenui hill. The address of the company in Auckand is at 26 Wakefied street.*
