COUNTRY NEWS.
Own Correspondents. Mangaotaki Valley. A very pleasant social was held here on Friday, 7th October, in order to celebrate the opening of Mr E. Harwood's wool-shed. There was quite a big muster of people present from the aurrounding district, some coming from as far as Paemako. The floor was in splendid order, and the building looked very nice, being decorated with ndkau, pango, and clematis flowers, great credit being due to Miss E. Lindsay and Mr E. Harwood for this work. For a district so far back from civilisation, the music was exceptionally good, consisting o£ an orchestra of three instruments under the direction of Mr \y. B. Lindsay. Several solos on the cornet by Mr R. Hill were much appreciated. The dancing was interspersed with several lively games and phonograph selections, items by several ladies and gentlemen contributing greatly to the evening's amusement. A very nice supper, prepared by Mesdames Harwood and Lindsay, was handed round and enjoyed by all present. Mr J. Evans made an efficient M.G., keeping things going with s awing till daylight, when everybody wended their way homewards, well satisfied with the manner in which they had spent the night.
