COMMERCIAL.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd , report as follows: — On Tuesday, 11th inst., we held our initial sale at Ohaupo, when about 300 sheep and 100 head of cattle came forward. The market for grown cattle was somewhat easier, but we anticipate a substantial advance in the prices towards the end of the month. We quote as follows:—Hoggets 15s 2d, aged sheep 10s 3d to 10s 9d, 2 year steers £4 4s, empty cows £3 10s to £3 17s, empty dairy heifers £3 3s to £3 10s.

On Wednesday, 12th inst., we held a most successful sale at Te Uku, when a full yarding of cattle and a line of ewes and lambs came forward. With the exception of the sheep and a few horses submitted for sale, we had a full clearance of the yards. Settlers from all parts of the district were present, and business was brisk from the start. We quote:—3 year steers £8 9s, 2J year steers £4 4s to £4 10s, forward~cows £4 15s to £5 15s, store cows £3 to £3 10s, yearling steers £2 10s to £3, mixed yearlings £2 to £2 ss, dairy heicers £5 10s to £6 9s.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: On Monday, 10th inst., we held a clearing sale on account of Mr Wm. Harris, at Flat Park, Leamington. The dairy cows made from £9 to £lO ss, calves 14s to 15s 6d, breeding sows £3, porkers 20s to 23s 6d, medium mare and foal £25, aged draught mare £8 ss, ewes and lambs 19s, 4 tooth rams 30s to 32s 6d, hoggets lis 6d, disc harrows £7 2s 6d, tine harrows £3 12s 6d, s.f. plough £4 10s, tripod harrows £4 17s 6d, harness, etc., at good prices. At Ohaupo on Tuesday, we yarded 1080 head of cattle, comprising mainly 1, 2, and 3 year steers and 2 year heifers. There was a good demand, and lively competition, only a few pens of yearlings being passed in. Three year steers made- £5 6s to £5 15s, 2 year steers £4 to £4 10s, 15 to 18 months steers £3 9s to £3 14s, yearling steers £2 14s to £3 2s, 2 year empty heifers £3 16s to £4 6s, 18 month heifers £3-,7s to £*3 13s, yearling Jersey heifers £3, 2 year Jersey heifers £4 12s 6d, mixed yearlings £2 3s to £2 lis, 3 year springing heifers £5 15s to £8 10s, dairy cows £7 10s to £9 10s.

Messrs A. Buckland and Sons report:— On Wednesday, at Westfield, the beef totalled 441. They were of nice quality and competition was steady. Ox beef made'24s to 26s per 1001b; cow and heifer 19s to 245, steers £6 12s 6d to £l4 2s 6d, cows £4 to £8 sb. Fat young calves sold freely. The 87 penned made from £2 5s to £2 lis for heavy, medium 25s to 275, smaller 12s to 235, fresh dropped 2s to 10s. There was a larger yarding of sheep and prices were 2s lower. Heavy wethers sold from 25s to 28s,' medium 21s to 24s 6d, light 18s 9d to 20s, prime heavy shorn 20s to 23s 9d, lighter 14s 6d to 18s, best woolly ewes 22s to 255, others 16s 9d to 19s 6d, hoggets 14s to 19s. The 151 spring lambs penned were insufficient, and prices advanced from 3s to 4s per head. Best made 22s 6d to 26s 3d, smaller 18s to 21s, light 10s 4d to 15s. Pigs were in usual numbers, and porkers were better worth with other classes at late figures. Baconers sold from £2 5s to £2 12s, large porkers £1 14s to £2 4s, lighter 23s to 30s, slips 14s 9d to 19s, well-bred weaners 10s 6d to 13s, others 6s 6d to 9s. At Westfield on Thursday, we had fair prices for dairy cows, which ranged from £7 15s to £lO, others £5 to £7 7s 6d, aged £3 to £4 ss, empty cows £2 17s to £4 7s, yearling steers £2 8s to £2 17s, 2 to 3 year steers £4 2s to £5 12s 6d, yearlings to 18 month heifers £2 10s to £3 2s 6d.
