Won by Arnst, The water was in a fair condition, with a slight; southerly wind behind the scullers at Akaroa on Monday. Arnst led from the start, and way never troubled, and won by three lengths. As compared witl) lb,o preceding year this shows a substantial increase. The land opened up in 1!)08 to 190!) having a gross area of 270,$U<i acres. The land in question has been opened under occupation with right oj purchase, renewable lease, small gracing runs, cash, pastoral runs, Hauraki pastoral regulations, mining district leases, village homesteads allotments, and improved farm settlements. The Departmental annual returns are now in course of compilation, and will bo required to be persued by the head office, in Wellington, beioro being published. Hence the exact particulars oC areas opened for selection under the various tenures are not yet available.
