--Football. — On Saturday the Hamilton junior reps, met the Waipa juniors at Puniu Domain. A fair number of spectators were present A fter a strenuous game the match resulted in a draw—3 points all. Mr F. Bowden refereed efficiently. —Hockey.—

Owing to the rough weather the Ladies* Hockey team from Hamilton did not put in an appeamace on Saturday. "Put not your trust in Strangers." Some Pirongiaites have had their trust in mankind rudely shattered. A stranger, who they trusted —not wisely but too well- did a midnight mike. It H rumoured that bp has left for Victoria to settle down. Plrongiaties wish that be would come back and settle up. —Valedictory.— Mr J. P. Vause and family were publicly farewelled last night. A large number of people were present, Mr J. B. Teasdale, chairman of the Town Board, presiding. Mr Vause was the recipient of a handsome gold watch and chain, and valuable presents were made to Mrs and Miss Vause as marks of esteem from different institutions with which they were prominently connected. A very pleasant evening was spent, prominent townspeople making speeches eulogising Mr Vause's efforts towards advancing the interests of the town and particularly with the Library, which was his great hobby. During the evening songs were contributed by Mesdames Andrew, Clarke, Ahier, Misses Hicks and Teasdale, and Messrs Batburst and Laurie, items which met with a hearty reception, as did a violin duet by Herr Moelfer and Randrup, and a clarionet solo by Mr JR. F. Land. Supper was provided by the ladies, after which dancing to the "wee sma" hours brought the affair to a conclusion ■
