KAWHIA.

——o (Own Correspondent.) The weather was exceptionally wot during the month of June, 634 inches of rain having fallen. On the 25th it rained very heavily and on the morning of the 26th the rivers were in high flood. Atkins launch got loose from the Perry and caused it to break the wire ropes, and the next day was found in one of the bays in the harboor. We have bad little frost so far, and grass is plentiful. Mr H. H. Pettit, who has been proprietor and editor of the "Kawhia Settler." for over five years, has sold out to Mr Schnakenburg, of Raglan. Mr Pettit will be missed here as be has taken a leading part in all matters connected with sport, and as Secretary of the Railway League, member of the Town Board etc., has been most untiring in his efforts on behalf of the town and district. The Te Rau-a-moa dairy factory has had a most successful season. I am sorry to say that the people in this County have not, so far, been able to agree, as whole, with the proprietor of the factory, and it is a pity that the people cannot see that it is to their interest to keep the factory going, even if they do not get as much for their butter fat the first year or two as they would like. For several years the Te Rau-a-moa factory was worked at a loss, but the settlers were satisfied \ with a little and now have their reward.
