Lovely weather favoured the social on Saturday. May Ist. and a goodly number of settlers and Maoris gathered at the school. Dancing commenced earlier than usual and was kept up tilt I- p.m. Songs were contributed by Messrs Farmer and Ycunie. and were received with applause. Mr Mancklou also contributed to the amusement of the gathering by several tunes on the gramaphone. Dance music was provided as usual by Messrs Puruhati and Robe, assisted by Mr Welter. According to promise Mr Buddcn read the New Year balance sheet of the school building account, which seemed satisafetory to all present. Regret was expressed at the gun accident which had befallen Mr Forbes' nephew, whom it is hoped will not lose his hand. Mr McMinamon has kt contracts for the felling of 400 acres of bush this year, which is anoher step in the progress of the district.
