HONIKIWI.

(Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly social vA held here on Saturday night. De|Be the unfavourable weather and we bad state of the roads from the heavy rainfall during the week, a fair number turned out to enjoy themselves as only back-block New Zealanders can, and a very enjoyable evening was spent, the dancers thinking that 12 o'clock came all too soon. Music was supplied by Messrs W. Coe and Purahau. Miss C. Budden favoured with a recitation, and Mr J. Coe with a song. The Committee have decided not to hold a social next month, as so many of the settlers intend being in Auckland that week to see the American Fleet. Mr McLean, of Hawlce's Bay, has purchased Mr Patrick O'DonnelTs section, on the Tapwae Road, at a price that speaks well for the district. The three new bridges between here and Otorohanga have been built and opened for traffic. This is a step in advance and it only requires that the road be made good to fit the bridges, and the Maori lands be opened for settlement to bring many new settlers into this part of the King Country.
