HONIKIWI.
On Saturday, May 16th, a dance took place in the school. As the weather was all that could be desired, and Padd.v's lantern shone brightly to come and go by, there was a good attendance of the settlers and their families. It was generally agreed that this last was the most enjoyable gathering that had yet been held, and from a financial point of view the second best. Perhaps, the secret of the general enjoyment lay in the fact that many of the young people having now learned to dance have passed from the state of envious onlookers to that of active participants in the pleasures of dancing. In fact, it was generally understood that this gathering was to be mainly for the purpose of initiating a number into the art, and so neither songs nor recitations were to be provided. The dance music was supplied by Mr Coe, of Te Rau-a-Moa, and Messrs Coe and Purahau, of Hautaru. Mr G. B. Buaden proved an active and popular M.C. On the fourth Saturday from last, another social is to take place when, given a fine night, it is hoped many from the neighbouring districts will be able to be present.
