KING COUNTRY SANITATION.

♦ The movement in the direction of adopting a system of sanitation for the King Country townships has borne fruit, and Inspector Bennett, of the Health Department, paid his first visit to Te Kuiti on Thursday last, for the purpose of making a systematic inspection of the township. Mr Bennett expressed himself satisfied with the condition of affairs generally, and found that residents were anxious to meet him in every case where he had any suggestions to make. There will probably be representations made to the County Council with reference to the institution of a sanitary service and the adoption of a system of drainage, and the Health Department's officers will pay visits of inspection to the various centres from time to time. Mr Bennett will work the King Country in conjunction with the Waikato district, and his visits will be made intermittently, and, unless on special occasions, will take the form of surprise visits. This system of inspection has been found by the Department to be the most useful, and has the effect of keeping people alive to their responsibility in the matter of cleanliness, and is an effectual check on carelessness. Mr Bennett left on Saturday morning for Otorohanga, and will probably return in time for the next meeting of the Waitomo County Council, which takes places on November 27th.
