MANGAROA.

A very enjoyable and successful ball under the auspices of (he Ohura Settlers' Association, took place in the Mangaroa Hall on Friday, September 20lh, when a presentation was made to the late, secretary, Mr G. Denison, as a mark of appreciation for services rendered to the Association, lu spite of the uncertain state of the weather, visitors from almost every part of the district attended, and helped to bring the function to a successful issue. 'JTie arrangements for the ball were in the hands of Messrs Williams, Craven, and Stevenson, and were carried out in first-class style. The hall was tastefully decorated with wattle and greenery, and in various parts of the hall were placed largo, coloured scrolls imprinted with motlos. and inscriptions in Maori. The floor had been carefully prepared, and was in splendid order for dancing'. Mr VV. 1.1. Uobbie acted as M.C., while Messrs McDonald and Maggie supplied the music. A dainty supper was provided, nfjer which Mr G. Loveday, in a speedy eulogistic of Mr Dcnison's past services, announced the presentation, which was then ma.de by Mrs W. K. Williams. The gift look the form of a handsome marble clock, which Mr Denison suitably acknowledged in a neat speech. Dancing was then resumed, and kept up until the early hours of morning, every tine declaring the ball to be one of the most, enjoyable ever held in the district.
