PAEMAKO.

An enjoyable social was held on November 9th, in aid of the school prize fund. Most of the settlers in the district were present, the attendance numbering between 50 and 60, and the prize fund benefited to the extent of £3. The school children were specially trained for their parts by Mr Upton, the teacher, who took an active part in the entertainment, the items being excellently rendered. A pleasing feature of the social was the part taken by the Maori scholars who . performed a selection of hakas and poi dances in excellent style. Items were also contributed by Messrs Trust, Connors, Rawson, Fitzpatrick, Kilmartin and Bradley. It is .intended to hold another social at an early date. A project is on foot in the district for the purpose of erecting a Public hall. The necessary land has been secured on Mr Sincock's section, and as soon as the desired area has been surveyed a start will be made with the building. The hall should prove a boon to the locality as the school is rather small for social gatherings, which are patronised by the settlers from the adjacent districts. Lawn tennis is now in full swing and the young people are taking full advantage of the fine weather on the tennis court. " •
