RAURIMU.
A Pioneer District. To fhe west and south-west of Raurimu, which is itself within the pumice territory, lies the fertile Kaitieke block, coming up to the "city of tents " on one boundary, and stretching to the Wanganui river on the other. The land is of good quality and offers great inducement to pastoralists and agriculturalists, and has been largely taken up by pushing settlers from the South, who have made good use of the few months they have been in possession. The land, heavily timbered, is being cleared as rapidly asjbad weather and poor burns will permit, and grass seed has been scattered by the ton. Last season, the first few pioneer bales of wool made their appearance in Raurimu. en route to Auckland —a presage of profitable shipments, and busy Raurimu markets in future years. A good road with numerous bridges, gives the settlers ready communication with the railway line, and a weekly mail and a post office supply the news of the outside world.
