FOOTBALL.

AIR TRAINING CORPS v REST.

In a junior match played on Takahanga Domain on Saturday afternoon the No. 55 Squadron Air Training Corps- team meat the Rest by 17 points to 9 in a game which became rather ragged, especially in the second half. The A.T.C. team was without the services of B. W. Perrin, and S. J. Lewis, the latter playing for the Rest to even up the sides a little. The A.T.C. team dominated play, especially in the loose, where their lighter but fast-moving and energetic forwards were always on the ball. A. K. M. Beach, an ex-AsJiburton school representative, showed good form, while K. Y. Boyd, V. R. Boyd, F. L. Burrows, and G.| G. Lawson were never far away. Of the backs, D. A. Hansen and N. A. 'Collins were impressive.

The Rest did not work nearly as well as their opponents as a team, and their play was mostly individual effort. Bill {Smith was in the thick of everything, while P. Smith, Bill Angus, and A. Aitken played with vigour in the forwards. S. A. Lewis was outstanding in the backs. The Rest had slightly the better of the set scrums in the first half, and Barratt brothers gave Lewis opportunities for scoring. Tackling was a weakness on both sides. Good hard low tackles were rare, and the spectacle of a player fending and wrestling his way through was rather a poor on tackling as usually understood in Rugby. Tries were scored for the A.T.C. by G; I.awson, V. R. Boyd, E. B. Dalzell, and K. Y. Boyd, one being converted bv A. J. Collins, who also kicked a penaltv. S. J. Lewis scored three tries for the Best. Mr M. G. Mackie refereed the match.
