MANPOWER COMMITTEE
SITTINGS AT KAIKOURA. Sittings of the No. 9 Manpower Committee were held in Kaikoura on Lhursdav afternoon and Friday morning. The committee comprised’ Messrs G. 1.. Page (chairman), J. Dicker, and S. Kenning, with Mr T. Dobson as secretary, and the following appeals were heard:— 1\ E. Bottle, appeal by Mrs A. Bottle.—Appeal upheld, subject to reservist being called up at any time. Patrick P. G. Eaton, appeal by Airs X. Laton.—Appeal dismissed, subject to reservist not being called up before April 2J, 1942. Brian J. .Hackle, appeal by J. J. Mackie, who asked for a postponement of calling up until the end. of April.— Reservist to be called up'at the end of April. Allen E. Barker, appeal by father, G. IL Barker.—This was a late appeal, due to appellant ’s partner having been called up for military duties. Adjourned sine die, reservist to go into camp from May 14 to August 14. William H. Smith, appealed for by J. H. Smith, who stated that he was agreeable to his son going into camp in three weeks’ time.—Appeal dismissed, subject to reservist not being called up before Alarch 31, 1942. Albert J. B. Barnes, appeal by F. L. E. Barnes (Air J. AV. Anderson). — Adjourned sine die, reservist to go into camp from May 14 to August .14.
George H. Betten (Mr J. W. Anderson), who asked for an extension of time until April 30 to enable him to conclude business arrangements.—This was granted. Arthur W. Oldman, appeal for by East Coast (Kaikoura) Freights, Ltd. —Appeal dismissed. Allan Adair, an appeal on the ground of public interest.—Adjourned sine die, subject to reservist going into camp from April 7 to July 7. John W. Anderson appealed for an extension of time to arrange business. —Adjourned to April 30. Janies H. Hemmingway (Air J. AV. Anderson), appeal on the ground of public interest.—Adjourned sine die, subject to not being called up before May 15. Reginald 11. Boyd, appeal by T. J. Boyd (Air J. W. Anderson). —Adjourned sine die, subject to not being called up before May 15.
Erie Arnold Poole (Mr J. W. Anderson appealed on the ground of undue hardship.—Adjourned sine die, reservist to undergo three months’ training from May 14 to August 14. Joseph »S, Wareham, appealed for by AL K. Wareham, on the grounds of undue hardship.—Adjourned sine die, reservist to undergo three months’ training from May 14 to August 14. Henry J. Stare, appeal by the Director of National Service.—Adjourned sine die. Kenneth K. Campbell, appeal by the Director of National Service.—Adjourned sine die. Raymond Theodore Schroder appeal by F. A. Gibson. —Adjourned sine die, subject to reservist doing training from Al ay 14 to September 30. Cyril A. McGregor, voluntary recruit.—Released from service on application of mother. Samuel P. L. Evans, appeal by the Bank of New Zealand.—Appeal dismissed. F. A. Gibson.—Dismissed for wan. of prosecution. Desmond J. Keehan.—Appeal dismissed for want of prosecution.
