BASE CAMP SHOOTING COMPETITION. (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service). CAIRO, January 6. Nineteen teams competed in a New Zealand base camp competition shoot for rifle, Lewis machine-gun and Thompson sub-machine-gun held on the camp ranges on Friday. Conditions were tricky, with a cold irregular cross wind. The rifle shoot was won by Central A with Gil out of a possible 8(H), Southern A were second with 593, and Southern B third with 534. Five practices were fired, comprising application and snap at 200 yards, application and snap at 300 yards, and tire and movement from 500 yards to 100 yards. Stacey (Southern A), 90, 2; Fenwick and Waghorn (Central A), 89, equal, 3; Matthews (Sergeants’ A), B’, 5; Haycock (Sergeants’ A), 85, 6; McKenzie (Officers’ A) 84, 7; A. A. McDonnagh (Southern B) 83, 8. ( School of Instruction, with 440 out of a possible 720, won the Lewis ma-chine-gun section. Central were second with 42G, and Northern third with 423. Individual results wore: —Carswell (School of Instruction), 77, possible 90, 1; Baker (School of Instruction), 71, 2; McGuigan (School of Instruction), 70, 3; Robinson (Engineers and Ordnance), G 9, 4; Humberstone (Composite Training Depot), Morpeth (Central), Wolff (Engineers and Ordnance), 68, equal, 5; ()’Donnell (Northern). 8. The Thompson sub-machine-gun section was won by Southern with .179 out

of a possible 320. Composite were second with 170, and A.S.C. third with 167. Individual results were:—Murray (A.S.C.). 77, possible 140, 1; Spiers (Composite), 74, 2; Bick lev (Southern) 69, 3. A cup was presented to the winner of the rifle shoot and medals to other winners and placed men and members of winning teams. The presentations were made bv Brigadier A. S. Falconer, D. 5.0., M.C., Commandant Maadi Camp.
