WAR EFFORT.
MARLBOROUGH’S PART. Pessimism has no place in community life to-day. The big essentials are the casting aside of politics for the mean time and the concentration of everyone iu getting behind the various movements which comprise our war effort, so that the sooner we may bring the whole force of the country’s organisations and resources to bear on the immediate question of helping Britain to win the war. This was the keynote of a public meeting in the Blenheim Town Hall on Wednesday night, when more than 200 people heard addresses by the Mayor (Mr C. T. Smith) and the Director of Primary Production (Mr R. B. Tennent), who was visiting the district in connection with the growing of linen flax. Various aspects of the war effort as affecting Marlborough wore dealt with by Mr Smith, and the introduction of the linen flax industry was fully covered by Mr Tennent (says the Express).
